| According to Abraham Maslow, all human beings seek to achieve "self-actualization". The pink pinnacle is the state where full human potential is achieved and where the motivation to transcend to higher levels of existence come into play (towards the very top blank triangle). While everyone can achieve their own full inner potentials, this comes only after having met all other basic needs for existence such as food, shelter, security, love & belonging. While there are different concepts of love (altruistic, spiritual love and human love) and each might be placed at a different levels of the hierarchy, when it comes to human love, we can accept basic human caring and acceptance as some of the basic human needs. Self esteem and self worth grows out of self love and so it has been placed above it on the hierarchy. As with all these layers, each must be built upon the one preceding it. It is also possible to have achieved a certain level of psycho-emotional development and then due to life challenges and set-backs find ourselves again motivated primarily by basic needs. Different types of support and therapy address varying levels of "needs". Transpersonal counselling helps to resolve issues associated with needs above basic security and "emotionally process" concerns related to all levels of this hierarchy. |

| Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs A Theory of Human Motivation, 1943 is still in use today in many fields studying human behaviour and motivation. |
